1. Pedestrians, skateboarders and motorists—two notes on cyclists:

    a) Cyclists can be identified by the presence of a helmet and the absence of a $50 wal-mart bike. People without helmets riding wal-mart bikes are just people on bikes, not cyclists; engage them at your own risk.

    b) When walking, riding a skateboard or driving, and you see a cyclist coming your way, do not change direction, stop moving, speed up or slow down. The reason being that the cyclist has already calculated your trajectory and is already thinking about the next 3 obsticles, and if you change your path there will be an accident.

    Thank you.

  2. Safety de Mayo

Eleven years ago today I was nearly killed by a red light runner on my bicycle. I broke my back, lost my spleen and I have a titanium plate and screws installed in my hand. One thing I did not get was a lifetime of spoon feeding and being a general burden to my family. Why? Because I was wearing a helmet.

I still ride my bike every day through that fateful intersection, although a little slower than I did from 1991-2000.

    Wear your lids, kids.

For those of you in Tempe here is the intersection: E Broadway Rd & S College Ave
