    Bicycles

    a) The cost of my 3 bikes combined don’t cost as much as a high-end custom bike.

    b) I have saved over $10,000 by riding a bike every day to work over the last decade.

    -so-

    c) Don’t give me any fucking grief about the cost of my bicycles, ultra maroon.

    unconsumption: We’ve come across examples of bicycle inner tubes upcycled into a variety of items: jewelry, wallets, furniture (see photos of ‘em here). Now here’s a different use: as an organizer/holder (for keys or other small items), made from inner tubes and tire valves attached to a piece of MDF. The holders are available via a German DaWanda shop (here) that also sells key rings, handbags, coin purses, mobile phone cases, and other accessories. (Spotted on Recyclart.)

    Safety de Mayo



    Eleven years ago today I was nearly killed by a red light runner on my bicycle. I broke my back, lost my spleen and I have a titanium plate and screws installed in my hand. One thing I did not get was a lifetime of spoon feeding and being a general burden to my family. Why? Because I was wearing a helmet.

    I still ride my bike every day through that fateful intersection, although a little slower than I did from 1991-2000.

    Wear your lids, kids.
