The lowdown: create a bike license plate to raise awareness in Utah. Banner frickin idea if you ask me.
A bill is headed to the House floor that, if passed, creates a special group license plate to raise awareness of cyclists.
The initial costs of the plate would be covered by the Utah Bicycle Coalition, a 5-year-old bicycle safety and advocacy group. “We’ve collected enough funds to purchase around 2,500 plates, which is roughly $18,000 to $19,000,” said Ken Johnson, president of the coalition.
Drivers who purchase the plate will make a $25 annual donation to bike operation and safety programs.
The bill has already passed through the Senate. Monday, the House Transportation Committee approved the bill, and it is now headed for the House floor.
They do not specify it vanity plates will be available.
