“My project was to” The American Express card ad said. I knew what my project was right away, to replace every car in the United States with a bicycle.

Sounds far-fetched, and I am not an optimistic kind of guy. I am not “all rainbows and unicorns” as a friend likes to say.

But I love bikes. Bikes provide all kinds of benefits with no downside. They are fun, keep you healthy, don’t pollute, don’t cause traffic jams, and keep you in touch with the outdoors and your neighborhood. You should be commuting by bike.

This is sounding a little “unicorny” so fair warning: I can be an ass, and a dick, and a mean spirited, cynical misanthrope. I like the F word, and I hate stupid people.

More warnings: I love technology, I hate Luddites, I hate newspapers, I hate roadies including Lance, I love single speeds and fixed gears, I love logic more than Spock, and I’m a Mac.

I shave my head and like to wear a kilt, but I am not a skinhead or Scottish, just pragmatic.
