Thieves targeting grates, manholes:

Cyclists beware: Apparently the cost of metal is up, so grates and manhole covers are being lifted by thieves. Unfortunately, a lot of grates and manholes are in the bike lanes. So if you are commuting at night (or early morning) keep a heads up for these traps. Not only will biking over an open hole cause serious injury, I bet your bike will get be totaled.

I predict some kind of locking by the cities is next, possibly just spot welding them down. Or cameras, lots and lots of cameras. Both of which are cheaper than replacing manhole covers all year. Sigh.
